CELEBRATING DIVERSITY THE EXCHANGE SUMMER 2021 A Look Back We celebrate Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer+ (LGBTQ+) Pride in June of each year to honor the 1969 Stonewall uprising in Manhattan, a tipping point for the LGBTQ+ Liberation Movement. In the United States, the last Sunday in June was initially celebrated as “Gay Pride Day.” In major cities across the nation, the day quickly grew to a month. Now celebrations include concerts, parades, parties, picnics, symposia, and workshops. Memorials for members of the community who have been lost to hate crimes or HIV/AIDS are also held in June. LGBTQ+ Pride Month events normally attract millions of participants around the world. This year, many events were held virtually. Salesforce employees attended celebrations across the globe. The purpose remained the same — to recognize the impact that lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and the spectrum of people of varying sexual orientations and gender identities have had on history at a global, national, and local level. 20 A Path Forward 21 In June we were honored to meet virtually with thought leaders from the LGBTQ+ community including actor, singer, and style icon Billy Porter. He spoke with Billy Lewis, the global president of Outforce, Salesforce’s LGBTQ Resource Group. Watch their uplifting conversation about authenticity, self-care, and taking pride in yourself.
